What is a Union Learning Representatives (ULR)?

A Union Learning Representative (ULR) is a person who is interested in learning and helping others to learn.

You can be involved as little or as much as you like, it is entirely up to you. Employees of Durham County Council will be provided with reasonable paid time off to carry out their ULR duties.

Union Learning Representatives:

  • Help others to identify their learning needs
  • Promote courses available through Unions
  • Provide advice and support
  • Work with other Union Learning Reps

What Training is Provided?

Training is held in several locations and normally consists of 1 day a week for 5 weeks, including people from various locations and trade unions. Training will be accredited by the Open College Network at Level 2 or 3.

How Do I Use the Services of a ULR?

It's Easy!! Give one of us a ring (see contact details below) or pop into see Sam, who is located in room 80 (near the 'Emergency Planning' room), on the first floor of County Hall. We will do our upmost to help you, or to refer you to someone who can (this maybe an outside specialist). Remember anything you discuss with a ULR is totally confidential and will not be discussed with anyone without your permission.
